About alternate side parking
What is alternate side parking?
Alternate side parking (ASP) rules clear one side of a street at set times so it can be swept. They're the street cleaning signs with a broom symbol, which list the days and hours the street is swept.
When is alternate side parking suspended?
On the legal and religious holidays listed on the city's ASP calendar, and sometimes for snow or other emergencies, which the city can announce the same day. The calendar above comes from NYC 311 and updates daily.
Are parking meters in effect when ASP is suspended?
It depends on the day. On major legal holidays both ASP and meters are suspended; on other holidays only ASP is, and meters stay in effect. Each day's details above say which.
Do other parking rules still apply on suspension days?
Yes. Only the street cleaning rules are suspended. No Standing, No Stopping, No Parking and every other posted rule stays in effect.
